Voice Recorder
Record from your microphone with a live waveform and save a WAV — nothing is uploaded.
Record Your Microphone and Keep the File
An online voice recorder is one of those tools where the privacy question is not academic. People record interviews, medical notes, lecture material and personal memos. Any recorder that streams that audio to a server for "processing" is asking for a great deal of trust in exchange for very little.
This one captures raw samples from your microphone into memory, draws them as a live waveform so you can see the level, and writes a WAV file on your device when you stop. Nothing is transmitted, and the microphone is released the moment you press stop or leave the page — no indicator left running in the background.
Key features
- Live waveform — see the input level as you speak, so you find out about a dead microphone immediately rather than afterwards.
- No time limit — recording continues for as long as your device has memory, with the running length shown.
- Raw sample capture — audio is taken directly from the input rather than through a lossy encoder, so the WAV is as clean as the microphone.
- Playback before saving — listen to the take before you download it, and re-record if it is not right.
- The microphone is released — leaving the tool stops every track, which is exactly what you want from a page that asked for your mic.
This tool runs entirely inside your browser using native Web APIs. Your files and text are never uploaded to a server, never logged and never shared with third parties.
How to use: Voice Recorder
- Start recording
Press the record button and allow microphone access when your browser asks. The waveform begins moving immediately. - Watch the level
Speak at your normal distance and check the waveform. A flat line means nothing is arriving; peaks that fill the box mean you are too close. - Stop when you are done
Press stop. The take is assembled, the microphone is switched off and the full waveform appears. - Play it back and download
Listen to the result, then save it as a timestamped WAV file.

Frequently asked questions
Is my recording uploaded anywhere?
No. Samples are captured into memory in the page and written to a WAV on your device. There is no network request involved in recording, and no server that could receive the audio even if one tried.
Why does the browser ask for permission?
Because microphone access is gated by the browser, not by us. You will see the permission prompt and, while recording, your browser’s own recording indicator. Both are controls we cannot bypass — which is the point of them.
Why is the file a WAV rather than an MP3?
Browsers do not ship MP3 encoders. Producing one would mean loading an encoder from a third party, so the recorder writes WAV instead: uncompressed, universally playable, and larger. Roughly 10 MB per minute of mono at 48 kHz.
Can I record system audio or a call?
Not with this tool — getUserMedia gives access to input devices only. To capture what is playing on your screen, including tab audio, use our Screen Recorder instead.
What happens if I close the tab mid-recording?
The recording is lost, because it only ever existed in that page’s memory. Stop and download before navigating away.
