Budget Planner
Plan a monthly budget and check it against the 50/30/20 rule.
Know Where Every Month’s Money Goes
List your take-home income and your regular costs — rent, groceries, utilities, transport, insurance, subscriptions, eating out — each with its own frequency: weekly, every two weeks, monthly or yearly. The planner turns everything into a monthly figure, so a yearly insurance bill and a weekly food shop sit side by side, and shows income, spending, saving and what is left.
Tag each line as a need, a want or a saving and see your split against the popular 50/30/20 guideline — about half of take-home pay on needs, 30% on wants and 20% on saving or debt — with the target amounts in money. If you spend more than you earn it says so plainly. Your budget is saved in this browser and can be downloaded as a CSV.

Frequently asked questions
What is the 50/30/20 rule?
A simple budgeting guideline popularised by Elizabeth Warren: spend about 50% of after-tax income on needs, 30% on wants and put 20% towards savings and extra debt payments.
What counts as a need?
Things you must pay to live and work: housing, basic groceries, utilities, insurance, minimum debt payments and transport to work. Upgrades to those — a bigger flat, takeaways — are wants.
What if my needs are more than 50%?
That is common in expensive cities or on lower incomes. Treat 50/30/20 as a starting point: keep saving something every month, even if the split is 60/25/15.
How are weekly amounts converted?
Weekly × 52 ÷ 12, every two weeks × 26 ÷ 12, and yearly ÷ 12 — which is why a weekly bill is a little more than four times its amount per month.
