Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate unit price?
Divide the price by the total quantity. For a 3-pack of 400 g at $5.40 the total is 1,200 g, so the unit price is $0.45 per 100 g. The calculator converts every item to the same base unit first, so different sizes and units compare fairly.
Is the bigger pack always cheaper?
No. Supermarkets often price mid-size packs or offers below the bulk size. Checking the unit price is the only reliable way to know.
How are discounts handled?
Enter a percentage off and it is applied to the price before the unit price is worked out, so “20% off” on the small pack is compared correctly with the regular price of the large one.
Can I compare ounces with grams?
Yes — weights convert to each other and volumes convert to each other. A weight cannot be compared with a volume without the product’s density, so those items are flagged.
Are US or UK fluid ounces used?
US fluid ounces, cups, pints, quarts and gallons. For UK products, millilitres and litres are the safest units to enter.
