Noise Reducer
Remove hum, hiss and background noise from recordings.
Clean Up a Noisy Recording in a Few Seconds
Steady background noise — a laptop fan, air conditioning, the hiss of a cheap microphone, the hum of a room — sits under every word of a recording. This tool learns what that noise sounds like from the quietest moments of your file, then removes it from everything else, frequency by frequency, while the voice passes through.
Choose how much to remove and how sensitive the detection should be, then compare the original and cleaned versions side by side. If the recording has no pauses at all, point the tool at a second or two of pure noise instead. Gains are smoothed across frequencies and over time, which avoids the “twinkling” artefacts cheap noise gates leave behind.
Key features
- Automatic noise profile from the quietest tenth of the recording.
- Manual profile from any stretch you choose, for recordings without pauses.
- Four reduction strengths, from −6 dB to −30 dB.
- Spectral smoothing against watery, musical-noise artefacts.
- Side-by-side players to compare before downloading.
This tool does its work inside your browser using native Web APIs. The files and text you give it are processed on your device and are not uploaded to our servers.

Frequently asked questions
What kinds of noise can it remove?
Steady ones: hum, hiss, fans, air conditioning, traffic rumble and room tone. Sudden sounds — a dog bark, a door slam, chatter — change too quickly to be learned as a profile.
Why does the voice sound watery?
The reduction is too strong for this recording. Lower the reduction or the sensitivity; −12 dB with normal sensitivity is a good compromise for speech.
My recording has no silence — what now?
Choose “A stretch I choose” and enter the start and end of a moment with the least speech. Even half a second of mostly-noise helps.
Is this the same as AI noise removal?
No. It is spectral noise gating, the long-established technique behind many editors’ noise-reduction effects. It runs locally and predictably; AI tools can also remove non-steady noise.
