Frequently asked questions
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. The video is opened by your browser and re-recorded on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, which also means trimming works on a slow connection and on private recordings.
Why does trimming take as long as the clip?
Browsers do not ship a video editor, but they do ship a recorder. The tool plays your selection once into that recorder in real time. A 30-second clip takes about 30 seconds; the result is a normal video file.
Which formats can I open?
Anything your browser can play: MP4 (H.264), WebM and, in Safari, iPhone MOV files. Some HEVC videos from iPhones will only open in Safari, because other browsers on Windows lack that codec.
Will the trimmed video lose quality?
It is re-encoded at a bitrate based on the original’s, capped at 1080p, so it looks the same to the eye in almost every case. Very high-bitrate camera files come out smaller than the original.
Can I trim a video on my phone?
Yes. It works in current mobile browsers, including Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android. Keep the screen on and the tab visible while it records.
