Repair PDF

Recover a damaged or truncated PDF and rebuild it as a clean file.

Recover What Is Still There, Write A Clean File

A PDF that will not open, opens blank or warns that it is damaged usually still contains most of its content — what is broken is the index that says where things are. This tool reads the file the forgiving way: it finds every object by scanning, corrects stream lengths that are wrong, and rebuilds a broken page tree from the pages that survive.

It then writes a clean PDF with a fresh cross-reference table and reports exactly what it fixed and what was lost. A file cut off halfway through a download keeps every page that was fully saved. Everything happens in your browser; the file is never uploaded.

Key features

  • Rebuilds the cross-reference table by scanning every object.
  • Fixes wrong stream lengths from the data itself.
  • Reconstructs the page tree and a missing catalogue.
  • Recovers truncated downloads up to the last complete page.
  • Clear report of every fix, and of anything unrecoverable.
100% client-side — no data leaves your machine

This tool runs entirely inside your browser using native Web APIs. Your files and text are never uploaded to a server, never logged and never shared with third parties.

Frequently asked questions

Why do PDFs get corrupted?

Most often an interrupted download or copy, a crash while saving, an email gateway that altered the file, or a tool that edited it and wrote a bad index. The content is often intact while the cross-reference table that locates it is wrong.

Can every PDF be repaired?

No. Content that is no longer in the file cannot be recovered. A truncated file loses whatever came after the cut, and scrambled compressed data may leave parts of a page or image missing. The report says what could and could not be saved.

Is the repaired file uploaded anywhere?

No. The repair runs entirely in your browser, which also makes it safe for confidential documents.

What if my PDF is password-protected?

Unlock it first with Unlock PDF, then repair the unlocked copy. Encrypted content cannot be checked or rebuilt without being decrypted.

The file opens fine — will repair do anything?

It rewrites it cleanly with a single fresh cross-reference table, which can fix problems some viewers or printers have with unusual but technically valid files.
