A convincing pencil sketch is mostly edges: where light meets shadow, where a face meets its background, where one brick meets the next. This tool finds them the way darkroom printers once did — it divides a grey copy of the photo by a blurred negative of itself, so flat areas wash out to paper white and every change in tone becomes a line.
Four styles build on that. Why does my sketch look almost blank?
The photo probably has few strong edges — a flat, evenly lit picture or a soft-focus background gives the effect little to draw. Raise the darkness slider, or use a photo with clearer contrast between the subject and what is behind it.
Is this AI?
No. It is a classic image-processing technique called a colour dodge, the same one artists use in photo editors to fake a pencil drawing. It is fast, predictable and runs entirely in your browser without sending the picture anywhere.
Will the download match the preview?
Yes. The preview is scaled to fit your screen and the line width is scaled with it, so the full-size file has the same character rather than lines that look thinner because the image is bigger.
Can I print it?
Yes. Export as PNG at full size and print on matte paper for the most drawing-like result. The ink style suits colouring pages because it is pure black lines on white.
Does it keep my photo’s location data?
No. The image is redrawn from its pixels, so the file you download carries none of the original’s camera or GPS metadata.
