Frequently asked questions
How is a weighted grade calculated?
Multiply each score by its weight, add the results and divide by the total weight. With homework 92% at 20%, quizzes 84% at 15% and a midterm 78% at 25%, the grade so far is (92×20 + 84×15 + 78×25) ÷ 60 = 84.2%.
What score do I need on my final?
Needed = (target − current grade × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight. If you have 84% going into a final worth 30% and want 85%, you need (85 − 84 × 0.7) ÷ 0.3 = 87.3% on the final.
What if my weights do not add up to 100?
Then some work has not been graded yet. The calculator divides by the weight you have entered, which gives exactly the grade you have earned on the marked work so far.
Which letter grade scale does it use?
The common US scale: 93 and above is an A, 90–92 an A−, 87–89 a B+, and so on down to below 60 for an F. Schools vary, so your syllabus’s cut-offs are the ones that count.
