Frequently asked questions
How is reading time calculated?
Total words divided by 225 words per minute, the widely accepted average for silent adult reading of general-interest prose. Dense technical material is slower; light fiction is faster.
How many characters should a meta description be?
Aim for 150–160 characters. Google truncates based on pixel width rather than a strict character count, but 155 is a safe target that displays fully on both desktop and mobile results.
Does it count words in Chinese or Arabic correctly?
Yes. Word segmentation uses Unicode-aware boundaries, and CJK text — which does not use spaces between words — is counted by character clusters, which is the conventional approach for those scripts.
Is my text stored or sent anywhere?
No. Every count is computed in JavaScript inside your browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, logged or retained after you close the page.
