What is an .ics file?
A plain-text calendar file in the iCalendar standard (RFC 5545). Opening it adds the event to the default calendar app on almost any device.
How do I add an .ics file to Google Calendar?
On a computer, open Google Calendar, go to Settings → Import & export, and import the file. On a phone, opening the .ics from an email usually offers to add it.
Why include the time zone?
Without it, the event could appear at the wrong hour for people in other zones, and repeating events could shift by an hour when daylight saving changes. The zone and its rules keep the time right everywhere.
Can I send this as a meeting invitation?
Yes — attach it to an email. It is a published event rather than an RSVP request, so replies are not tracked.
Is my event data sent anywhere?
