Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?
Unweighted caps at 4.0 regardless of difficulty. Weighted adds bonus points for honours, AP or IB courses, so it can exceed 4.0. Colleges usually recalculate to their own standard anyway, so both are worth knowing.
How do I calculate a cumulative GPA across semesters?
Enter every course from every semester in one list. Because the calculation is credit-weighted, that produces the correct cumulative figure — averaging your per-semester GPAs does not, unless the credit loads happened to be identical.
Do plus and minus grades matter?
At most institutions yes: A− is 3.7 and B+ is 3.3, a meaningful gap. Some schools ignore modifiers entirely, and a few cap A+ above 4.0. This tool uses the common scale where A and A+ are both 4.0.
Are my grades stored?
No. Everything is calculated in the page, and nothing is transmitted or saved.
